Malcolm: Yes, she was extremely satisfied. The PVC deck boards she selected were installed as planned. One adjustment involved the cable railing system. We selected an option that included a drink rail along the top, which added both functionality and visual appeal.
We also installed a small paver walkway that was added later in the project, along with path lighting to enhance the design and improve accessibility.
What are the differences between PVC and wood decking?
Jake Morris: I do have a few follow-up questions. Can you explain the differences between PVC and traditional wood decking, and why the client ultimately chose PVC?
Malcolm: The client’s existing wood deck was splintering and required regular sealing and maintenance every few years. It was also starting to rot in certain areas. She wanted something long-lasting that would remain safe for her children and require minimal upkeep.
The PVC composite decking we installed comes with a limited lifetime manufacturer warranty. It doesn’t require sealing, staining, or extensive maintenance beyond routine cleaning, making it a much more durable and convenient option.
How did accent lighting improve the outdoor space?
Jake Morris: You also mentioned accent lighting. How did that contribute to the overall project?
Malcolm: The backyard had large privacy trees between the client’s property and the neighboring home, which made the area fairly dark at night. The neighborhood also doesn’t have many streetlights, so lighting became an important safety feature.
We installed step lights along the deck stairs to improve visibility and safety for the kids. We also added path lights along the walkway to create a subtle accent while improving nighttime usability without being overly bright.
